Billy Elliot is
Lee Hall’s multi-award-winning musical based on the hit film of
the same name, set in the North East of England during the
miners’ strikes of the 1980s. Billy’s miner dad wants his son
to box, but Billy displays more of a talent for ballet. While his
brother and dad stand on the picket line, Billy is encouraged by
dance teacher Mrs. Wilkinson to follow his dreams.
The musical - directed by Stephen Daldry, with a score by Elton
John, and choreography by Peter Darling - won the 2006 Best New
Musical Laurence Olivier Award when it premiered in London. Since
then, productions have opened around the world, most recently on
Broadway.
Please Note: Billy Elliot, contains strong language and some scenes of confrontation between policemen and miners. As a rule of thumb, when booking tickets for parties including children, please consider the film version of
Billy Elliot (rated 15) and whether this would be suitable for all members of your party. The producers'
recommendation is a minimum age of eight.
